Design explanatory statement

Beautiful in the green, lies a stately monumental villa in the countryside. A small-scale residential and care facility for vulnerable people is located on about 5000 m2 of land. Ten people currently live there. This number will double. To make this possible, the existing villa will be thoroughly overhauled. A two-storey wing will also be added. The starting point is that each resident will have their own bedroom/sitting room. Prominent spaces are the living rooms, kitchen and common areas where 'meeting' and 'personal contact' are central. A lot of attention is paid to experiencing together, and 'being together', both indoors and in the park-like environment.
In the center is a patio, creating a 'beguinage'. All other rooms are adjacent to it. Sightlines through the building make it easy for staff to keep an eye on things. Orientation is easier for residents. As far as architecture is concerned, a good balance has been sought between existing and new. Both are equal to each other and together form a new balanced whole.
